For me, there is no better sense of freedom than being on the open road. It elicits feelings of adventure, possibility, and most certainly of awe. In glancing out my windows at any number of unfamiliar topographical or geological features, I often find myself astonished at the majesty spread out before me. So I thought it would be fun to share some of what I’m seeing on the open road. It will help fill out the account of my journey, and give you an idea of what I’m writing about.
With that in mind, I offer the first video montage of my adventure. It is composed of road footage, and still photographs of places I visited along the way. You’ll eventually hear all about them, and see more pictures, when I get to that point in my blog. Since this was my first real experience using a Go Pro camera, there was certainly a learning curve that first week. For starters, I charged it a few days before my departure, but when I got in my car to finally hit the road, I found it dead. I think I somehow failed to turn it off after I checked the charge. My solution was to use my iPhone sitting in its cradle on my dash to capture leaving L.A., resulting in less than optimal footage. This was something I had to do a number of times, as I got used to how long the Go Pro’s charge would last, and how to charge it from my car when that happened. Unfortunately, I found my iPhone has some limitations in capturing such footage, especially at night. I considered not including those shots, because they’re approaching embarrassing, but decided that, since it helps tell the story, I should go ahead as planned. Please forgive them. Everything gets better from here, I promise.
